Creating a Beautiful Oops!

Have you ever made a mistake when working on your art project?  Sometimes making mistakes can make you feel frustrated, but it is actually an opportunity to make a beautiful oops!  What is a beautiful oops you ask?  Well, let me show you!

To complement this lesson, I made a set of posters for the classroom, to help students make responsible decisions when it comes to conserving art supplies.

Boring part for grown-ups and teachers:

Wouldn’t you know it that not only does reframing mistakes into something positive model a growth mindset and responsible decision-making, but it also touches on other important SEL concepts. By educating students how to respond when creating a mistake, we are also developing their self-awareness through building a growth mindset, building their self-efficacy, and helping to identify one’s emotions. We can increase self-management by identifying and using stress management strategies when faced with a mistake. We are also developing social awareness by asking students to consider other’s needs for art supplies and their role in conserving them not only for other classmates but for the environment as well.

Something as simplistic as turning mistakes into a Beautiful Oops can have a profound emotional impact on our students.
