How to make Yarn or Plarn from Plastic Bags

Anyone else a Target addict like me?  I swear these Target bags are taking over my pantry!  If you’re in the same boat and have more plastic bags than you know what to do with, make plarn or plastic bag yarn!  It’s easy and can be made into so many different crafts!

Watch the tutorial here:

First, you want to get your plastic bag nice and flat. This is especially important if like me you’ve been balling them up and smashing them into other bags…

Next, you are going to fold your plastic bag into about a 1-2 inch piece (no need to be exact here), and continue folding until the whole bag is one strip.

Next, chop off the handles and the bottom seam of the bag.  Then cut into small one-ish inch strips, again, no need to be exact.

Once you’ve got the strips cut, you will notice that the plastic bag is now in long bands.  Now, this knot is the trickiest part of making plastic bag yarn, but I believe in you!  Take one oval loop and lay it over another one, creating a circle in the middle.

Take the tippy toes of the ring that is on top, go underneath the circle and through the middle.

Pull tight to form a knot.  Keep adding on to your chain until your plarn is at your desired length!
