Marcel the Shell with Shoes On Inspired Creatures and Meme Writing

This week for our neighborhood creative club, we took a look at our friend, Marcel the Shell with Shoes on.  Marcel is a very interesting character because he gives us a great perspective on what it is like to be small.

To introduce the kids to Marcel, we listened to this read-aloud, Things About Me. Gosh, I just love how the narrator does a great Marcel voice! The kids really loved this story.

To set-up, I had trays of odds and ends (thanks to many “free” boxes at garage sales!), google eyes, pipe cleaners, string, sharpies, Posca pens, and our 3-D pen to make accessories.  I also had hot glue guns and air dry clay available to help attach items. I also had empty baskets to act as “shopping baskets” for kids to collect supplies off the table and take them back to their seats.

The kids got to work and created the most adorable creatures!

We then took all of our adorable creature’s photos so we could create our own memes!  I had a little photo studio and thermal printer set-up so we could photograph all of our creations.

My co-leader Emily taught the kids how to write memes and they turned out adorable!
“Do or do not there is no battle cry”

What do I grow in the garden? Beats. (The creation was a DJ!)

“Android? I’ve never heard of it *Inserts hair flip*”

Another successful creative club!
