Preschool Art & Story Time: Rainbows

For our third story time, we examined colors, color mixing and r

ainbows!

Here are the three books we read, Elmer the Elephant, Mix it Up, and A Color of His Own.

In between books we went on a color hunt around the room, singing this song to the tune of Farmer in the Dell:

I can find something red, I can find something red,
Hi ho the colors oh, I can find something red.
(Then orange, green, etc.)

I also laminated 8 see through chameleons like the ones we saw in the book A color of His Own.  They were tricky to find around the room, and we held them up against our shirts to see them change color again!

For our activity stations, we did three main things.  The first was to create our own Elmer out of a milk jug, tissue paper squares, and mod podge.  These turned out so cute!

Second, I had a station with eye droppers, diluted liquid water color and diffusing paper.  Not only is mixing the color fun, and beautiful, but those eye droppers are building hand strength to help with writing and drawing!

Finally, we had watercolors and our own chameleons to paint!
