Who doesn’t love a freshly picked apple in the fall? A trip to the
apple orchard inspired me for this week’s story time.
We started with reading a book called Apple Farmer Annie, this was a cute book about, you guessed it, an apple farmer named Annie!

We then went on a apple hunt around the room. Before class I had placed many apples cut out of felt around the room for the kids to find.
I then placed 5 felt apples on my board and we recited this cute rhyme:
Way up high in the apple tree (raise arms)
5 little apples smiled at me (hold up # fingers)
I shook that tree as hard as I could (shake)
And down came an apple *crunch* and mmm it was good (rub belly)
How may apples are left? (Repeat song)
Then we read the Seuss classic, 10 Apples up on top. The kids thought this story was hilarious and couldn’t believe how silly putting all those apples on top of your head is!
Song two: to the tune of London Bridge:
See the apples falling down, falling down, falling down,
See the apples falling down, down to the ground.
* Pick the apples and toss them up, up to the sky*
Our final book was A New House for Mouse. Mouse tries to find a new house that will fit her and her apple!
Final song:
This is the way the apples hang, apples hang, apples hang
This is the way the apples hang, up high in the tree.
*This is the way the apples drop, down to the ground
* This is the way the apples spin, around on their stems.
* This is the way the apples rock, back and forth in the basket.
Our art stations this week were creating apple prints with real slices of apple, this was a crowd pleaser and lots of kids and grown-ups were talking about doing this one at home too!
I provided large sheets of tissue paper for the kids to rip and stick to a piece of clear contact paper on a paper plate to make their own apple.
At the last station, students used pom poms and spoon to put pom pom “apples” on their tree!
