Preschool Art & Storytime: Home and Habitats

This week in preschool storytime we focused on places people and animals live.  Our three books were Roy’s House, Do Lions Live on Lily Pads, and the Big Orange Splot.

I really loved these books, Roy’s House is filled with art by famous pop artist Roy Lichtenstein, Do Lions Live on Lily Pads is a silly book where you think about animals living in the wrong habitats, and the Big Orange Splot is one of my all-time favorites and is about being yourself.

We listened and danced to 5 Little Monkies Jumping on the Bed and Popcorn by Barenaked Ladies (because, you eat snacks at home!)

Then we went off to do our activities!  The first was to make your own house out of a milk carton, painting it anyway you wanted to just like in the Big Orange Splot!

We also created our own animal habitats out of wood pieces and recycled materials:

I also had dot-maker sheets printed of animal habitats, along with circle stickers to stick on the dots (not pictured)

Finally, I brought along some building blocks for kids to build their own homes and habitats!
